Questions about Military FBI Background check.?

by Boot Camps on January 22, 2012

I got in trouble 3 years ago for bringing a knife to school I took the teen court option and did my sanctions for it but I was never finger printed or anything. Then I got in trouble again for petty theft which I told my recruiter about and when we went to the court house to check my record the only thing that showed up was petty theft in the courts system. And I had no criminal record or juvy record since there was no conviction for each nor was I finger printed. I have already swore in and went to MEPS and everything for the Marines. I was also to that there is a Background check done at MEPS as well as boot camp. I go to boot camp June 13 so does that mean Im ok? What should I do I don’t want to get midway into boot camp the end up being told to go home because of something stupid. And if it helps im not getting a job that requires a Security Clearance and Im 18 with no Adult criminal record.

If they let you ship you’re probably good, never heard of anyone getting kicked out of boot for something like that…the only thing you may have trouble with is a clearance. Whether your job calls for it or not a secret clearance is a good move, opens up opportunities inside and outside of the military.

You should be OK the recruiter did the background check, and as long as you are honest on your background check documents you should pass a check with no problem. Every one has things in their past that they are not proud of, but the key is to not lie on any documents.

Semper FI and good luck in Boot camp.

The FBI does not get involved in routine background checks for the DoD.

Be honest at MEPS. They will do a local records check and and a national agency records check. For the most part, it is all an online check by the military.

As the only thing on your record is the petty theft, I would not sweat anything – just be honest at MEPS.

EDIT: All six of our answers are essentially correct – yet someone has given us all a thumbs down! I wonder on what basis we are all screwed up?

Dude you’ll be fine, I had 1 count of breaking and entering and 2 counts of aggravated assault and I got in the Army, I even said that I had no criminal background and nothing happend. They will claim that if you lie you could go to jail for a year and pay a $5,000-$50,000. trust me don’t sweat it, they did the background check and I’m fine, I have been in the Army for 4 years now, been to Iraq, I have a security clearance and all that jazz, etc. You’ll be fine

You already past the initial local Background check, that is why you got a ship date. The other Background check is a US wide check. They do this to everyone. Nowadays it only take them to enter your name or SSN in a system and it will tell everything about you. Unless you have used some alias name, you will be fine. If you were going into a job to require a Clearance, then that is another thing. Just before i retired last year, i use to process paperwork for people trying to get a Clearance. The procedure and requirements are not easy to get a Clearance. After the wiki-leaks, things have tighten up even more. You will be fine, unless you have some skeletons in your closet. Trust me, if you try to hide something, they will find it. Lastly, you are not officially in the Marines until your second swearing in, which is done right before you ship out to boot camp.
